Abstract:

The organization of information processing systems is a central
question in economic, organizational, and computational theory.
Here we focus on the creation, design, and operation of information
processing organizations. Organizations are modeled as collections
of simple, information-processing nodes that must solve a series
of problems using a limited standard operating procedure.
We analyze the generic properties of such collections of nodes, as well as
the potential for organizations to adaptively improve their performance.
